Anita Clifford secured success in a recent bank account freezing and forfeiture case. The police dropped the freezing on the account and the forfeiture hearing which was due to take place at Luton Magistrates Court. The result of Anita’s representation was the restoration of the client’s access to their bank account. Anita was assisted in this matter by paralegal Olivia English. Account freezing and forfeiture powers are new additions to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, introduced by the Criminal Finances Act 2017. They are based on a framework similar to cash freezing and forfeiture, but one notable difference is that an account freezing order denies access to the entirety of a person’s bank account as opposed to the portion of their cash deemed suspicious.
