Bright Line Law in The Times on account freezing

The Times The Brief

On 29 March 2019, Jonathan Fisher QC and Anita Clifford commented on a coordinated effort to freeze bank accounts in The Brief, the legal bulletin published by The Times. Last month, enforcement authorities froze 95 student bank accounts suspected of being used in criminal activity under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. The next step after freezing is account forfeiture. This can be done administratively where there is no objection or after a hearing but this, as Jonathan and Anita comment, can be harder than first thought.
